Making The Best Gold Investment
The best gold investments out there will depend greatly upon how much you have to invest. It is important to point out that any and all forms of gold make a great choice when it comes to gold investments; irregardless of whether it is in coin, jewelry, bar or even certificate form. The more that you have to invest, the more profitable this form of investment can be.
On the lowest end of the spectrum, you have gold jewelry which can be purchased locally. The cheapest of these is usually the male wedding ring or wire and necklace forms. These do not have too much labor involved with their production and sometimes the jewelry shops are selling it for less then the going market rate.
The next form of gold investment comes in the form of small bars and bullion coins. The local coin shops will offer these to you. They are usually available in 1 to 5 ounce pieces which are priced slightly over the market rate. When you want to sell this form though, you will get less then the market rate though.
After the locally purchased bullion you have the ETF. These are great for a small time investor, but they do come with many drawbacks. The ETF is a share of stock and not ownership of an actual bar of gold. They represent 1/10th of an ounce, but you will have to pay the full capital gains tax on any profits because you cannot claim these as a collectible item.
Finally you have the gold certificates which represent actual bars of gold that are locked up in a reserve somewhere. These may actually be considered a collectible and therefore might avail a tax break, but one has to be ready to spend an arm and a leg for their purchase as in most cases these certificates represent a full-sized bar of gold which weighs several pounds.
